【Ceremony】BS8001 International Circular Economy Standard Highest Level Certification Ceremony
TEV, a pioneer in the circular economy, has passed BS8001 and has become a world-leading sustainable enterprise.
Date: February 22, 2024
Event: BS8001 International Circular Economy Standard Highest Level Certification Ceremony
Certified Enterprise: Taiwan Enzyme Village
On-site certification body: The British Standards Institution (BSI)
“Circular Economy” and “Carbon Reduction〞 are the greatest challenges of this century.
And we cherish the idea of eternal growth much more than heading towards an end.
Taiwan Enzyme Village, a local enterprise in Chiayi, has not only achieved the highest level (Level 4) of the British BS 8001 Circular Economy Standard through systematic operations but has also gradually become a leader in the global green transformation with its innovative technology and philosophy.
▼Fully integrated "cradle-to-cradle".
Leading the Way in Sustainable Fermentation.
Taiwan Enzyme Village, located in Minxiong, Chiayi, on the Tropic of Cancer, holds the distinction of being the world's first vegetable and fruit fermentation factory fully committed to the "cradle-to-cradle" philosophy. Since its founding in 2010, Enzyme Village has embraced the concept of "respecting nature's bounty" (吃果子、拜樹頭). This translates to using over 150 varieties of locally sourced fruits and vegetables for fermentation, with OEM products reaching markets worldwide. Their commitment to sustainability extends beyond ingredients. The fermentation process utilizes a completely water-free method, eliminating air pollution, noise, and chemical additives. Additionally, the factory coexists harmoniously with farmers and the surrounding environment.
One current challenge lies in managing the final fermentation residue, even though it's produced through an eco-friendly process. To address this, Enzyme Village sun-dries the residue, avoiding landfill methods that burden the land. Their dedication to continuous improvement extends to actively seeking even more sustainable practices.
And these efforts have yielded a remarkable result! In 2021, we successfully developed a process to transform the enzyme pomace, a byproduct of our fermentation process, into organic fertilizer. This innovative approach not only minimizes waste but also nourishes the land, closing the loop in a truly sustainable cycle. Our collaboration with an Alishan tea master reveals the impact: thicker tea leaves and a significant rise in health-boosting catechins!
▼BS 8001, the world's leading circular economy standard, is a driver in tackling global pollution.
Unrelenting in our pursuit, Enzyme Village has refused to settle for merely testing the waters of reusing fruit residues. Instead, we strive to fully integrate these practices into our operations, building a unique, cyclical production system for TEV. As the world's first and only circular economy standard, BS 8001 provides a robust framework with six principles to guide implementation. This makes BS 8001 the ideal choice for Taiwan's Enzyme Village on its path toward becoming a sustainable enterprise.
Taiwan Enzyme Village recognizes that achieving a circular economy is not at odds with profitability; it's a long-term benefit strategy. By embracing circularity, enterprises can unlock four key areas of growth: environmental protection, cost savings, waste reduction, and enhanced competitiveness. In fact, Europe estimates that the net economic benefits of a circular economy will reach a staggering €1.8 trillion by 2030.
▼Enterprises "have the ability" to jointly create a zero-waste dream blueprint.
With a three-generation legacy in farming, Mr. Zheng defied expectations, becoming a successful entrepreneur selling fruit enzymes worldwide. Just like how vegetables and fruits on the ground are transformed into high-value enzymes, spreading health globally, Taiwan Enzyme Village proves through its actions that nothing is impossible. Since 2021, Taiwan Enzyme Village has undertaken green initiatives like carbon inventory, carbon footprint, and enzyme residue recycling. Even though it has been bumpy all the way, it has now become the world's first and only fermentation factory to adopt a circular economy! Green transformation is a crucial imperative. Not only does the Earth need businesses to change, but failure to do so will gradually marginalize them in the market and with consumers. Rather than the impact of the wave of troubles, companies should imagine a blueprint for the future, bravely take on this challenge, combine upstream and downstream with related industries, and jointly create a new era of garbage disappearance.
The seventh pain point of low-carbon operation in the hidden version:
【7. Enterprise structure and operational optimization】
Implementing low-carbon measures requires collaboration across "all" employees and departments. This facilitates companies to easier identification of areas for improvement during certification and report-writing processes.
Specifically, for example:
◆ A comprehensive carbon inventory division of labor can clarify the details of departmental workflows.
◆ Carbon computing systems enable companies to track various data types.
◆ A dedicated circular economy group formulates short-, medium-, and long-term plans, leading to stable green transformation and enhanced external image.
